4/19/2012 Duv
Okay so to start off the class Mrs Wray talked about our envelope threads, anything we find in the text that is relating to our given theme we have to write on a note card and stick it in an envelope. We also talked about paragraph structure, the order was:
Topic sentence: indicates the purpose of paragraph
Evidence/ details: examples to support
Logical ordering of the information
Conclusion- you must have a transition with these things
We were dispersed into groups and handed back our paragraphs on our stage directions, we swapped papers and highlighted sections according to the paragraph structure we had talked about and gave feedback, we then re-wrote our paragraphs.
We were given an act corresponding to our group number that we had to condense into 5 minutes, it has to include 5 lines from the actual text and we have to act it out next class period. HOMEWORK:

Today, the class talked about their automotive experiences. Mrs. Wray exclaimed the pleasure she derived from the success of her Rat Zaper®, and Emma exclaimed that finding pleasure in the death of rat is inherently wrong. A moment of silence was held. The final story of the day was told by Mrs. Wray. She depicted an event in which, by someway feces entered the binding of a book and was promptly discarded. The real education began when the class reviewed the homework and discussed 4.1/4.2. We all split up into groups and made physical representations of Macbeth.
HW: Vocab Quiz 14 on Thursday, Read 4.3 and be prepared for a quiz next time.

Welcome back from spring break! There were a lot of people absent so class felt really empty. We started out by talking about what we did over break and then turned in our scene three analysis. Ms. Wray also mentioned that she updated grades. Before we turned our final Living History papers in, everyone shared their favorite passage or sentences. There were a variety of very interesting topics.
Emma - Malay massacre of Vietnam
Isabella - James Dean's tragic death
Natalie - Hurricane Katrina
Kristen - the Japanese attack on the Phillipines
Brandon - Woodstock
David - Dirk Fritz (I think ?)
Shannon - Amelia Earheart's disappearance
Bella - the sinking of the Titanic
Ashely - Bombing in Germany Grant - San Francisco earthquake
Sarina - "I have a dream" speech
Edwin - Japanese internment camps
Duvessa - Bloody Sunday
Leo - Virginia Tech massacre
Cassi - Jonestown
Tenzing - Chernobyl nuclear explosion
After sharing we turned our final papers in. For those of you that were absent, the order is final draft, works cited, attribution of research all stapled together. And then your two (or more) rough drafts, planning sheets, and finally notecards. We then discussed the use of first person for these papers. Though many found it "labor intensive" and difficult, some people liked it.
After that we watched act three from Roman Polanski's version of Macbeth.

After that we looked over Act 3, Scene 4 and split up into groups to summarize what happened in the scene. We then made "freeze-frames" of the scene with our groups. :) HOMEWORK: Finish reading Act III, write 1 scene analysis from 1 scene of Act III (see Wrayger for handout explaining the writing) FINAL DRAFT OF LIVING HISTORY DUE NEXT TIME!!!

Sorry, for the ridiculously late post.
On Thursday, we had a substitute teacher. Mrs. Rulli.
We were given back our essays, and then went over the guidelines for the attributions of research.
We then shared our comics with a partner and turned them in.
As a class, we read over Act. III scene I.
In groups of 3 we read act III scene II.
We then did a Jounal write answering two questions: 1) Is Macbeth happy as king or not? why do you say so? 2)How are the dynamics changing between Macbeth? Refer to the text. HOMEWORK:
Final Draft of the living history project is due on Wednesday 3/21/12
Attribution of Research draft is due on Monday.
3/9/12 zingten11 I'm a terrible scribe. But at least I have rainbows. IN-CLASS: We took our vocab quiz, and after that I put away the scribe notes on accident. I honestly have no recollection of what happened for the rest of class... Oh, we turned in our questions that were due (about 2.3 and 2.4) after discussing them. So there's that. EDIT: Now that Mrs. Wray posted the summary, I remembered that we also reviewed/analyzed the Great Chain of Being. Macbeth disrupting the chain by killing the king is causing chaos in the rest of the chain, especially the animals; the whole chain is interconnected and it's all breaking down because of the unnatural rearrangement. HOMEWORK: At least I wrote this down...
Smile!
Vocab Sentences 13!
Act II Quote Responses (2)
Envelope Threads: Each person gets an envelope and a topic, and you need to find quotes relating to your topic, write them on note-cards or slips of paper, then put them into your envelope.

Then we discussed why Shakespeare repeat a line in "fancy" writing into simpler words, example in book: Act 2 Scene 2 Lines 80 & 81 "The multitudinous seas incarnadine / Making the green one red."
HOMEWORK: Answer question on Act 2 Scene 3 post on the wiki. Also Quiz #12 next class.

We started the class by getting our essays back and apparently almost all of them sucked. Namely they were lacking in organization and using summary rather than analysis. For our homework for next class we need to have our rough draft that was handed back as well as a revised draft. We should also have the idea for what we are doing for our creative book project (List of Ideas on Wiki). After that we started the Of Mice and Men movie.

Hello class! To start off the day today we first took our eighth vocab quizy of the year. Then we went right into discussing "Of Mice and Men" and everyone basically said their last thoughts and opinions on the ending and the novel itself. During this time to help us understand the meaning of the title "Of Mice and Men", we read a poem called "To a Mouse" and discussed the significance of these two things. After, we went to the computer lab to work on our thesis statements for our outlines for the in class essay we will be writing this week! That basically wrapped things up!
IN CLASS ESSAY ON THURSDAY
Homework: write your thesis statement and send it to Mrs. Wray by Sunday night so she can give us feedback

Today started casually. The class traded stories about past IV experiences and the occasional incompetence of medical professionals. Next Mrs. Wray gave the class an overview of the Independent Novel Project (due Friday the 13th). Mrs. Wray suggested that the class finish their books over Winter Break. Keeping the momentum, the class rolled into a discussion about Of Mice and Men's ending. We each paired back up with our partners from the beginning of the book. Once again we used Steinbeck's vivid imagery to paint the dark scene. One of the most prevalent scenes in the last reading was that of the Heron and Snake. The class participated in a discussion about the possible meanings of this metaphor. The final task of the day for the class was the always intimidating FISH BOWL! The class divided into two groups and courageously tackled Of Mice and Men's themes. Topics discussed ranged from Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs to George and Lennie's relationship. For next class, brush up on your vocabulary because there will be quiz 8 waiting for us when we return.
12-5-2011 David Soo
To kick off class we started a quiz about chapters 1-5 of OMAM. The expressions of alumni around the classroom were far from confident, so keep up your reading guys! Finish the book by next class! We brought our independent reading books to class, and were told that the book MUST be read by January 1st, and on Friday the 13th( D:) we will have a in class essay response about our book. Along with the essay is a creative response (like a project; such as a shoebox model, movie/skit, poem? food? idk something creative!) Good news is that we can use the book for the test. Later in class we discussed the migrant workers to Cali, and talked extensively about the dreams of the characters in the OMAM. "Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs," was a pyramid structure given to us to show various steps in a person's personal life used in the latter discussion. Our other assignment was a "Whats Important" worksheet on either chapter 6, or both 5 and 6 that analyze two fundamental sentences/phrases. Homework: highlighted in red Upcoming Important Events that are Important Super Important Event: Cassie's birthday is the day after Friday the 13th/ David gets extra credit for posting this the day of :)
11/29/2011 Jake Oliver First Mrs. Wray read us the poem called "Poppies". After the poem we took a vocab quiz for vocab 7. Then we went to get a book called "Of Mice and Men". After we got back we did a journal write of what we thought the title meant. Then we looked at the four pictures that followed the Loss-Quest architype paper that we had to look at and make a response for homework a while ago (Before thanksgiving break). After we looked at the pictures we went back to our journal and in the journal we wrote about why we thought that society is with us or against us for reaching our goals. we then started a drawing activity about the first two paragraphs in the new book we got. HW: Read chapters 1 and 2 inOf Mice and Men//, vocabulary sentences #8
11/18/2011 Edwin Koh
Mrs. Wray started the class by having everybody share there line of "Our Generation". Then she read a poem. We took biblical notes about why study the Bible in public schools, What is the bible, History: "Canaan to America", and Literary Connections. We also did a Activity looking at 5 different pictures about David. We all looked at the picture and then stood next to one that represented David. Unfortunately we did not finish the activity. We read about "David" HW: Read "David" pages 190-194,202-204, & 206-208. Look at the following images and write a response about the painting of the loss/quest archetype.
11/16/2011 Duv Mrs. Wray gave us a new seating chart, she showed us a video with students of the school reciting lines from the poem 'Poetry is an insurgent art' that was made two years ago. Another video is being made by Ryan Woolworth but this time the poem is written by the students. We are to write a sentence beginning with 'Our generation.....' get creative lads! We took the list 6 test. Mrs. Wray showed a painting on the board of Abraham sacrificing Isaac to God and she asked us to label it and explain what happened next for extra credit. This caused discussions about wether Isaac was a willing sacrifice and what impression of Abraham this story gives us, Mrs. Wray showed us Abrahams extendes family tree and talked about this story pertaining to more than one religion. Our homework on this story was shecked and stamped. We read the poem 'The parable of the Old Men and the Young' by Wilfred Owen a young poet and soldier of the First World War, and talked about its meanings; that Abraham sacrificed his son rather than his pride and how this poem could apply to all wars. Vocab sentences list #7 . Finish questions reviewing the class.
11/14/11 MartyDawson
Mrs. Wray read two Shel Silverstein poems at the beginning of class today. After we'd heard the poems a discussion some how started that got the human centipede. We also took a pre-assessment on world religions. People then when around and announced their independent reading books. Instead of the normal verbal discussion of what we had written about in class today we took place in a 'silent discussion'. In place of talking we went around to a large piece of paper with a question related to the reading and we responded to the question in about a paragraph or so, or we had the option of responding to what other people had said about the question instead. The questions with their responses are currently hanging on the classroom wall as of time of writing. Though despite the silent discussion we also had a class forum about the prompt "Am I my brother's keeper?". In terms of home work we have to read Abraham and answer questions 2, 5 and 7. There's also a quiz on vocab #6 next class so don't forget to look over the words!
11/9/2011 SpadaSpud
Mrs. Wray read a passage from The Great Gatsby. After we heard the passage, we wrote journal write 9. The journal write was about a picture that Mrs.Wray put on the board and the picture was about a man protesting after people were killed in Seria. After we finished we discussed our journal write. Then we took out our Bible literature books and our comprehension questions that were due. We discussed and talked about the book and questions for quite awile. Then we took out a piece of paper and either wrote a letter to god from Adam or Eve's perspective about how Adam or Eve feel about the Forbidden Fruit topic, or wrote a poem about the topic. We finshed that and after we got a head start on next times reading.
Homework: "The First Murder"pg. 38. Answer "Responding" #1 (pg 40)
Read "The Great Flood," page 57. Answer #1, 4, 5

Happy Monday! We started the class period by discussing grading policies. Mrs. Wray will keep a running total for both quarters. The Odyssey essays will be on our 2nd quarter grades but the Odyssey tests will be added onto 1st quarter grades. Next, Mrs. Wray read November Rain by Linda Pastan. (http://www.freak-search.com/en/thread/6012544/november_rain,_by_linda_pastan) The poem described rainy habits and was perhaps foreshadowing the rainy Oregon weather we are about to head into.
After reading the poem, we checked off our sentences for Vocab List #6 and went over the words. Mrs. Wray learned how to zoom in on the computer (hold down control and scroll in on the mouse)! We viewed and discussed writing situations that we posted on the extended discussion page on the wiki.
Next, we were all given clay and 15 minutes to 'get in the zone' and create whatever we wanted to. Our final masterpieces ranged from music notes to grenades to flowers and to snowmen. After cleaning up the clay and setting our pieces to dry by the window, we discussed which sculptures were the most creative.
Then, we began journal #8. Journal #8, 11.7.11
a. What does it mean to create? Give a definition of creation and examples of different types of creation.
b. How do we define 'creative'? What attributes seem to describe that which we see as creative? Again, try to give examples.
Remember to get your journals into your writing folder because Mrs. Wray will be grading them soon! After wrapping up our journals we went to the library and checked out the Bible as Literature. Some of us were yelled at in the hall by Mr. Bome! Yay! Next class we will discuss why we are reading the Bible in a public school.
Homework --> 1. Select an Independent reading Novel by Monday. (It must be at or above your grade level and you can't choose it if you have already read it) 2. Read "Creation - Heaven and Earth" (Pages 3-5), "Creation - in the Garden" (Pages 7-8), and "Forbidden Fruit" (Pages 18-19) 3. Answer Questions 3, 5, and 6 on Page 5; 6 and 9 on Page 9; and 1, 2, 6, and 7 on Page 20

We turned in our Odyssey Final draft with all process pieces at the beginning of class today. Then we went over the Odyssey test that we took last Thursday, the 27th. During the last half hour or so of class we started one of Mrs. Wray's favorite movies, "Oh Brother," which tells a similar story to the Odyssey. The homework is to study for the vocab #5 test next class on Wednesday, the 2nd.

At the start of class we took the unit test for the Odyssey. After the test we talked about the final drafts for the essays (which are due tomorrow) and there was this weird power point with like examples of the writing process? I think... I cant really remember. It was made by some nationally famous yearbook teacher. So yea... do the writing process on you're essay and make it supper duper good. Also, the finished chart is due next class. I remember something about extra credit for writing down like every verb in your story... and doing something with it but i have no clue what so...

We began the day with Ms. Wray reading us a poem titled "Bus Boy" by George Bilgere. Following that, we wrote our 7th journal entry that basically asked us whether we believed Odysseus was a hero or not (actual entry is located in the '10 journal writes' tab) while Ms. Wray stamped and collected our homework (study guide for books 22-24). Depending on our opinions of whether or not Odysseus was a hero, we were split into two groups and as a group we were assigned to draw a picture and create an argument to defend our sides. We argued for most of class period. David then decided that he wanted to create his own 'mutual' group because he couldn't make up his mind, which then led us into the discussion of whether there is a definite definition of a hero that everyone could agree on. After all was said and done, Ms. Wray passed out a study guide for the unit test that we will take next class. HOMEWORK:
Vocab #5 sentences
STUDY FOR THE UNIT TEST!!!
'The Odyssey' chart will be collected on Monday
The final draft of your narrative essays are due on MONDAY not Thursday.
and Ms. Wray will collect journals soon so make sure you have all your entries neatly in your journal.

In class today we began with our vocab. quiz. Following the quiz we then lined up in alphabetical order based on our favorite fruit to create groups for our next activity. We then moved into our newly formed groups and discussed the list of main events and questions we created as homework for book 20.
In the same groups, we then read book 21 and created a skit around two minutes in length to share with the class along with the help of Mrs. Wrays variety of costumes. During this time our vocab. sentences for list #4 and reading guide were given back with our scores on them. Homework: Create narrative essay rough draft and read the rest of the Odyssey (book 24 is optional). You need to finish the book by next Tuesday: only the rough draft is due next class. Bring your book Friday because Ms Wray will try to give reading time.

The Daily Scribe (In Comic Sans)
First thing in class today was a talk about the homework policy. If you can't access the materials you need to do your homework, make sure to email Mrs. Wray, and do not come up with excuses if you can possibly do it. Also, use the wiki, it's a very useful tool for knowing what you have to do. (Though if you're reading this I suppose you already are.) Afterwards, we reviewed the elements of narrative writing.
Narratives tell stories using: Plot, Characters that are developed by characterization, Setting, Voice, Theme, and Details, including dialogue.
Knowing this, we started brainstorming ideas for our own narrative that we are writing (about our goal). The main points of the brainstorm were to think of details and possibly create a plot structure. Mrs. Wray recommended starting your story at the point that you achieve your goal and then reminiscing about your journey of getting to that point. Of course, you can write it any way you want, if you don't want to do this.
After brainstorming for a while, we moved to the Odyssey and reviewed books 18-19, then moved to book 20. The epic simile was pointed out; it's a simile that is drawn out over 4-8 lines, and it's extremely common in the Odyssey.
Homework:
Read book 20, write a bullet summary of it, and write 3 questions about it for the class. Rough draft for narrative due on Friday!

Hello class. First thing we did was go over our vocab our share our sentences. Then we talked about our new narrative essay we will be writing. YAYAY! The essay will be about our own "Odyssey" in the form of a narrative and will have allusions to the Odyssey as well. We read a couple of examples of past essays and then we did a brainstorming activity about a specific event (past, present, future) where we generated ideas that would either act as obstacles or helpers going through this event. Lastly, we had a short reading check about book 16 and 17 involving quotes and questions.
Homework: read books 18 and 19, there will be a reading guide on wiki that you will need to print out and complete.
Next vocab quiz: next Wednesday
Rough Draft of Narrative: 10/21
Final Draft of Narrative: 10/27 PSAT's TOMORROW!!
10/05/11 A_Hoogenstryd Class started with Ms. Wray reading a poem called "The Cord". We then split up into 9 groups to share "The Eight Steps of the Hero's Voyage: An Example", then we shared some with the whole class. We then worked on the Odysseus tracking chart and filled in the 4th and 5th row for Ismarus, Lotus Eaters, and Cyclops; then we shared with the class. Ms. Wray then showed use some pictures of Odysseus with the Cyclops, and we talked about the Cyclops scene in more depth. We started to reread book 10. We marked Aeolea Island (#5), Laestrygon (#6, not marked but on main land of Italy), Circe's Island (#7), and Land of the Dead (#8). We put them all on the chart and did the 1st and 2nd row. HOMEWORK: read book 12 and create a comic strip representation of the events. use images and text. Vocab Quiz next class. see book 11 summary and book 12 study notes on wikispaces.

Hey guys! I forgot to mention during my senate presentation, the fact of the class competitions. Starting tonight (@ varsity football game, at home), every varsity game/match, play (Grease, One Acts, ect.), choir concert, orchestra concert, dances (after game, homecoming, winter formal, prom(in our case, probably not going)), or away varsity football games, there will be scanners to scan your student ID's. A few of the main ASB members will be walking around at the games, ect., wearing bright colored vests with hand scanners. Every student ID scanned, will give one point towards your class. The class with the most participation, wins. We haven't decided on what to give the winning class, but I'm sure whatever it is will be just fantasic! THANK YOU!

Class started out with Natalie giving us a presentation about the clubs discussed at the senate meeting. We took the vocab quiz on our week one and two words. Mrs. Wray then read a poem called “Selecting a Reader.” We then did a journal write about a picture of a man lighting himself on fire. After that we got a green note card and took out the Odyssey. We had to find a quote that described Odysseus. We then got into groups of five and discussed the quotes.
Homework: Read books 9 and 10 and complete the “Whats Important” on the wiki, also vocab sentences #3

Today in class we read a poem called, Introduction to Poetry by Billy Collens. Then we did journal #4. The question was: What was your impression of Odysseus? We finally met our hero; does he seem heroic to you why or why not? Please use specific scenes to describe your impression of him and cite the pages and lines.
Then we got into groups and did a ven diagram of the traits that make a hero. After getting into our groups we talked about book #5 and took a short quiz. Then we started to read book #6 as a class. The homework is to finish book #6 and take notes as you read.

Sorry about posting so late :(
Anyways today we came into class and started to talk about some unusual subjects, one being the SAT and about a portion on it where you have to write in CURSIVE!!! yes..cursive, that weird way of writing letters and words in a format that we were taught in 3rd grade and forgotten by most of us now. So this is your reminder to study up on cursive portion of the SAT test next year!! :) after about 15 minutes of reliving our 3rd grade past of cursive we got out our journals and started to write... Journal entry #3: a. Describe your initial impressions of the Odyssey. What type of world is conveyed? Is it a world you'd like to inhabit (live in)? why/why not? b. Which character stood out for you? why? use the text to support your understanding of this character.
Next we wrote down some vocab words in our journals that we need to know and that are very important to our story now. VOCABULARY WORDS XENIA- code of behavior which guided the guest/host relationship in ancient greece. HUBRIS- excessive pride, arrogance, or self confidence which often results in fatal retribution MOIRA- fate EPITHET- term used to characterize a person or thing; term used as a descriptive substitute for the name or title of a person
after finishing writing down the vocab and journal we took some time to discuss our thoughts about the journal and some examples of the vocab words.
toward the end of a very quick period we started to read book 5 of the Odyssey in class out-loud and got our homework assigned-- HOMEWORK-
Read all of book 5 from Odyssey plus write down notes/observations you feel are important on a seperate sheet of paper or stick notes on page.
vocab quiz from list 2 on thursday the 29th! study up!! :)
9/25/11 Just letting everyone know, there is a vocab quiz Thursday, September 29th!

Coming into class today everyone was expecting to sit down and get working on the Greek Gods Quiz, but first our Vocab #2 sentences were collected and we discussed the meanings and examples of the 10 words and 2 roots assigned.
We then discussed the PSAT test that we are taking on October 12th and were given booklets to study and prepare for the test. Don't worry too much though, guys, this is like a Pre- Pre- SAT. This one is like a practice test for the main PSAT we will be taking next year. This does not count for anything but our cool school decided to pay for us to all be able to take the scary PSAT's twice in our high school career--thank you Lake Oswego. October 12th will not be an A or B day, we will only come in to take the PSAT (which is not optional) and be let out early at 12:30. Nevertheless, this will be a good thing for us. Unlike all of the other first-timers around the country, we will know what to expect when we take it Junior year and we will be prepared! Study the booklet though so that we can actually use this privledge to our advantage. This will be a very helpful tool for us. So I guess we do owe LO a real thank you! :)
After discussing the importance and un-importance of taking the PSAT's twice, we moved on to THE GOD'S QUIZ!!! Don't worry, it wasn't as scary and intimidating as it sounds.
Our next activity was actually very fun! In the groups we were divided into last class period, we reenacted sections from the reading we were assigned (The Trojan War packet). We have many characters in our class, including a one-man-show (I'll give you one guess who that was) and some boys who feel the need to ACTUALLY SLAP thier fellow actors during reenactment.
After the fun of the skits, we discussed the story of Odysseus, who went out to the Trojan War but did not return after it was finished. Odysseus ended up being unaccounted for for almost 20 years, leaving a wife and baby.
We then began reading a little bit in class on page 77 and 78.
HOMEWORK: Finish reading the first book of The Odyssey (pages 77-92) and take notes on the reading on a sheet of paper. Take notes on characters when they are introduced and about things you learn about them through the reading, and keep track of actions and/or events as you read. (bullet points are fine for the notes)

Scribe Notes…a day after I took them
We started the class off with a scurry preparing for are Vocab Quiz. We all did are best but unfortunately there are no baked goods in our future. We took a look at to be and discussed its alternatives. Mrs. Wray took this time to introduce two posters in the class, the dead and alive word posters. A movie was the next learning experience for the class. Pan’s Labyrinth demonstrated the importance of myth and how hard simplicity is in art. The class took a field trip to the library to pick up Homer’s Odyssey. The ariival of the Odyssey in our hands led to a discussion of Greek gods. A talk of the Trojan War followed the Greek god discussion.
Homework: 12 Olympians Quiz, Trojan War Reading, Vocab set 2 sentences.

Scribe notes from two classes ago
The class went by too fast, as we had a lot of fun writing in out journals in detail about a cookie that each group of two were given, but only one person in the group was able to use all five senses, while the other was only allowed to see the cookie. A few people then shared what they wrote, and what lovely things they wrote I might add. After that activity, we went over our homework and wrote more notes about the Greek gods and goddesses that we may have forgot to already have.
Homework: Study for the vocabulary quiz, which we will take next class!

Sorry about getting these up so late -_-
REMEMBER THE TEST ON THE VOCAB LIST ONE ON MONDAY!!!!
You will be required to define three words minimum and there will be some fill in the blank and matching.
To begin class we discussed the dynamic character of Connie. All of the various symbolism that associated with the mysterious Arnold Friend drew some creative responses from our class. Was Connie actually killed in a field later? Why did Arnold draw the X over Connie when he saw her and it "stayed" suspended in air? Remember the numbers on the car? Zubin boldly read the 33rd book of the Bible (Judges) chapter 19 verse 17. It basically said, "Where are you going, and where have you been?"
Later in class we got into groups and discussed various aspects. E.g. Characterization, Setting, Point of View, Imagery, Irony, Symbolism, and Theme.

I'm excited to hear what you guys picked! Also don't forget the ten vocab words you need to write sentences for. Then Ms.Wray showed wikispaces for the people like me who weren't sure exactly how to use it! She also gave us some helpful hints on how to study for the vocab test by using quizlet. We wrote in our journal about what are the values of stories were. She asked us after the journal write to form groups and draw a plot line, when we finished that up. She gave us instructions to use my personal favorite story, Cinderella and finding where each part needed to go in context of the plot chart! Last but not least the class picked who are class senator was. It was a close race, it turns out Natalie is our new Senator and Grant is the alternate, congrats on the win guys!

Ashely - Bombing in Germany
Grant - San Francisco earthquake
Sarina - "I have a dream" speech
Edwin - Japanese internment camps
Duvessa - Bloody Sunday
Leo - Virginia Tech massacre

Tenzing - Chernobyl nuclear explosion
After sharing we turned our final papers in. For those of you that were absent, the order is final draft, works cited, attribution of research all stapled together. And then your two (or more) rough drafts, planning sheets, and finally notecards. We then discussed the use of first person for these papers. Though many found it "labor intensive" and difficult, some people liked it.
After that we watched act three from Roman Polanski's version of Macbeth.

I'm a terrible scribe.
A_Hoogenstryd 3/7/12
IN-CLASS: We turned in draft 2 of our living history essay with works cited. We had a quick discussion of what we read in Act 2. We went over Macbeth's Soliloquy in Act 2 Scene 1 Line 33-61 further and answered some questions about it. Next we acted out Act 2 Scene 2 and explained what was happening as we went along.
So for today we did a rough draft peer reviewing and we discussed with our partner about each other's paper.
we went through a sample of paper work citing list which is due next class.
Homework: - Finish acting II ( the summary is online )
-work on cited draft
- Draft number 2 with visible change : )

"Here are my scribe notes for the day..."........at the beginning of class, we switched our seats. Afterwards, Ms. Wray told us all about how she isn't done with grades quite yet and that she is almost done with grading our papers. (Buy her a starbucks card; she never sleeps.) She then asked for a scribe, I volunteered, and she said that i could do it.....obviously :P. We then went into the computer lab and continued our research.

Later we did a gallery walk through, and looked at everyone's Independent Reading creative projects! Concluding the social part of class we then got our in-class writing response to the books we read. we took the rest of class to finish them!!! We can now return our books and have a great weekend!! :)

The class started with Mrs. Wray telling us telling us about the Poetry Out Loud competition. If you want to audition they are on the 17th and 18th of this month. If you are going to audition make sure to take into account physical presence, voice & articulation, dramatic appropriateness, level of difficulty, evidence of understanding, and overall performance. We then watch the promotional video for Poetry Out Loud called Our Generation (youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZMokHUQwos). Next we turned in our revised drafts into Mrs. Wray with the first draft to compare. We then watched some more Of Mice and Men the movie. After we received our revised drafts back.

First Mrs.

We took biblical notes about why study the Bible in public schools, What is the bible, History: "Canaan to America", and Literary Connections. We also did a Activity looking at 5 different pictures about David. We all looked at the picture and then stood next to one that represented David. Unfortunately we did not finish the activity. We read about "David"

Mrs.

Homework -->
1. Select an Independent reading Novel by Monday. (It must be at or above your grade level and you can't choose it if you have already read it)
2. Read "Creation - Heaven and Earth" (Pages 3-5), "Creation - in the Garden" (Pages 7-8), and "Forbidden Fruit" (Pages 18-19)

Homework:
Create narrative essay rough draft and read the rest of the Odyssey (book 24 is optional).

Homework:
Read book 20, write a bullet summary of it, and write 3 questions about it for the class.Rough draft for narrative due on Friday!

THANK YOU!

VOCABULARY WORDS
XENIA- code of behavior which guided the guest/host relationship in ancient greece.
HUBRIS- excessive pride, arrogance, or self confidence which often results in fatal retribution
MOIRA- fate
EPITHET- term used to characterize a person or thing; term used as a descriptive substitute for the name or title of a person
after finishing writing down the vocab and journal we took some time to discuss our thoughts about the journal and some examples of the vocab words.
toward the end of a very quick period we started to read book 5 of the Odyssey in class out-loud and got our homework assigned--

Todays Scribe notes are!
First we turned in our letters to Ms.Wray and talked about when materials and the signed form are due... Tuesday 9/13/11 if you forgot!
Then we went over the homework which was reading "where are you going" do'nt forget to annotate when you find something! Everyone should find thier favorite book and fill out the book review.

Here are my scribe notes for yesterday!
We played liar liar, it was a great way to get the group interacting with each other!
We have a very interesting class, creative lies and shocking truths.
Went over course syllabus. Seems like an interesting, jam packed year.

Ms. Wray also passed out two other papers- a get to know letter from Ms. Wray and a reading and writing questionnaire.
